Tandem Q&A
Q: why suspend the wheel, not the rider?
A: there are many reasons but simply put, it is the only way to improve both ride and handling
Q: how is the ride better than a shock post?
A: Superior damping and the least unsprung weight.
Q: Why do i need better handling? I don't race.
A: Most cars are not raced either but if your shocks are shot, driving at sane speeds is risky. Once you ride wheel suspension, ridgid bikes seem so shaky and unconnected--ask your mountain biking friends.
Q: How does it handle better?
A: All bruni's start with the stiffest top tube in the industry because the top tube and seat posts comprise your handling backbone. A seated captain steers the bike as much through the seats as through the bars. Any flex in the seat-to-seat connection is noodle city. Try riding a bruni with captain standing, stoker seated, then try it on any other bike. Shock posts and beams only make things worse. Stiffen your backbone.
Q: Why only in the rear?
A: So far, the combination of front end compliance (bar, stem and fork) and the captain's active body suspension (unweighting over bumps) have created a balance with the mechanical rear suspension that just feels right. Yes, bike design is still about art, about building bikes that beg to be ridden, not just fiddled with in the garage.
Q: Is it expensive??
A: you could buy a heavy, wiggly Santana or a Bruni for $3,000 - $5,000.
